How to: Prevent nappy rash in babies

Hi all. Being a mommy has taught me many things and gave me too much worries to which I look for working solutions. Today I am going to talk about a fail proof method to prevent nappy rashes in babies.

1) Change the diaper every 4 hours. Regardless it is full or not. Diaper is a germ house. Air does not pass through it and its moist, making a perfect host for germs.
2) Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly on the rash prone areas to keep them away from moist.
3) Change the diaper at-once when the baby poops. Dont let the baby sit in his/her poopy diaper.
4) Swap baby wipes with fresh washing and towel drying. The conventional wash and towel dry method effectively cleans the baby genitals and does not let rash happen. Baby wipes are excellent in emergency, but they do not clean and disinfect the skin as much as the wash-and-towel-dry method does.
5) If you must choose baby wipes, the non fragrant ones are a better option. Fragrances often have irritations causing chemicals not suitable for soft baby skin.

If the rash happens:

1) If rash happens. Apply some rash preventive ointment with every diaper change. Don't let the rash enhance. The sooner it's treated, the better.
2) You can also apply an oil and water mixture on the affected area. Mix one part mustard oil and one part water. Make a mixture and apply on the affected area with every diaper change.
3) Religiously change the diaper after every four hours if rash has occurred.
The above tips are my personal diaper care observations. If you have anyother tips, let me know in the comments below :)
